Announced as the solution of the future to solve all traffic problems in big cities, the Loop tunnels, designed by Elon Musk and his company The Boring Company should have caused a sensation in Las Vegas on the occasion of CES 2023. But not everything didn’t go as planned…

Before sending us into space or wanting to drive us all in electric cars, Elon Musk had another dream, to build some kind of trains (capsules in reality) at very very high speeds (more than 1100 km/h ) which would circulate in tubes thanks to air cushions and which would be propelled by a magnetic field created using induction motors…
With this idea, not so far-fetched as that, Elon Musk conquered the whole earth and many projects were born following this vision, promising in particular to reach Los Angeles to San Francisco or Paris to Marseille in less than 30 minutes in both cases. Ten years later, the projects are no longer progressing and a rumor swells that Elon Musk would never have intended to embark on this project, but just to derail a high-speed rail line project in California…
Anyway, Elon, the tubes, it’s his hobby! Always ready to imagine crazy projects to save our planet (colonize Mars to move when the Earth will no longer be hospitable for example), came out of his overflowing imagination the “Loop” project, via his company “The Boring Company”, a company specialized in the construction of…tunnels, created especially for the occasion in 2016.

The principle of Loop? A rapid transit system that uses self-driving vehicles (Teslas of course) to transport travelers through tunnels at high speed. A sort of metro in self-driving cars to relieve congestion on major roads. Why not? As the Americans say! And what could be better than the biggest Tech show on the planet, the CES, which takes place as if by magic in Las Vegas to demonstrate this means of transport of the future?

So, that we agree, the principle of Loop is to offer to travel over short distances (from a few hundred meters to about ten kilometers), in very congested cities, in a fluid and fast way, without cap and in a completely autonomous way. Basically, with Loop, we must be able to do in less than 5 minutes what we would do in 30 to 40 minutes on foot. Nice !
Here in Las Vegas, the test tunnel measures 1.5 miles (about 2.5 km) and promises to make the journey in 2 minutes flat against 25 minutes on foot. When all is well…
But according to the dozens and dozens of testimonials available on Twitter in particular, the shower is damn cold… As you can see in the various tweets, we have, to start with, drivers on board the vehicles, queues and finally, and above all… corks! Conclusion, some users took more than 20 minutes to get from point A to point B with Loop when they would have taken less than 10 minutes on foot…
