On Wednesday, January 11, in Troyes at the Stade de l’Aube stadium, the match of the eighteenth round of the French football championship will take place, in which Troyes and Marseille will play. The starting whistle of referee Hakim Ben El Hadj will sound at 22:00 Kyiv time.
Poison
The history of such a modest French club as Troyes is not known to every Ukrainian football fan for a fairly simple reason – the representatives of the Champagne region were founded only 37 years ago, and the history of their sporting achievements is not replete with trophies. The maximum that the Blue-Whites achieved was a victory in Ligue 2 before the next return to the “elite” division, and the last such lift took place a season earlier. However, not so long ago, a truly epochal turn happened in the history of this club. English owners Manchester City are committed to building the world’s leading network of football clubs, and Troyes are part of this ambitious project as of September 3, 2020.
Obviously, the financial capabilities of the satellites are far below the level of the Premier League champions, but this does not prevent the French team from constantly receiving personnel reinforcements in the form of young promising performers. Already, midfielder Ante Palaversa and striker Marlos Moreno are under the guidance of Australian specialist Patrick Kisnorbo, and these two make up only part of the “leased landing force”. Until recently, the Ukrainian forward Nikolay Kukharevich was also part of this team, but the young man has not yet succeeded with a career in France. The club that owns his contract, meanwhile, is stuck in the middle of the table, which, however, is a sufficient result, based on the goals of Troyes’ presence in Ligue 1.
Marcel
The name Marseille is much more familiar to our football fans, as the historical achievements of this team were quite loud, including winning the 1992/93 UEFA Champions League. And representatives of the Provence region crossed paths with Ukrainian clubs in their time in European cup tournaments. Before the start of the current season, against the backdrop of several years of instability, they started talking about building a new project, which was entrusted to lead the notorious Croatian specialist Igor Tudor. In fact, even the loud promises of the club’s management to compete with PSG were enough to at least sometimes monitor the results of the team’s performances.
However, in recent days, everyone is only talking about the Ukrainian midfielder Ruslan Malinovsky, who decided to change the gray everyday life in Lombardy for the luxury of the Cote d’Azur. The newcomer of Marseille has already managed to get acquainted with his new teammates and even took part in the training process. However, at this stage, it’s a bit early to talk about his place in the starting lineup for the upcoming game.
The “Provencals” will thus have to solve their tournament tasks on their own, and in this context, they have a rather acute issue of fighting for the second line against Lance. The crazy “red-yellow” team cannot stop even PSG now, so a four-point lead over Tudor’s team does not look like nonsense. Marseille have won the last four matches, including the responsible derby against Lyon (1:0) and the meeting against Monaco (3:2), so they are ready to continue to pursue the favorites of the championship race.
