With more than ten million units sold, the action role-playing game “Horizon: Forbidden West” was one of the biggest titles of 2022. As Christopher Dring from GamesIndustry.biz confirmed, the majority of sales were not attributable to the various bundles that were offered by dealers in the past year.
With the action role-playing game “Horizon: Forbidden West”, which was released last February, the Dutch developers from Guerrilla Games delivered the next commercial success.
Aloy’s new adventure released for PlayStation 4 and PlayStation 5 has sold more than ten million copies worldwide. Since “Horizon: Forbidden West” was sold by various dealers in the form of official and sometimes self-made PS5 bundles, it was sometimes said that the action role-playing game owed its sales figures to the bundles, which should not be underestimated.
Assumptions that, according to Christopher Dring, head of GamesIndustry.biz, we can ignore with a clear conscience, at least in relation to the European market. According to Dring’s information, more than 80 percent of sales in Europe are not attributable to the bundles. In his statements, Dring referred to the data from GSD and GfK.
What’s next for Horizon?
The next projects in the “Horizon” universe are currently being worked on. For example, Guerrilla Games is developing the “Burning Shores” expansion for “Horizon: Forbidden West” for the PlayStation 5, which will be released on April 19, 2023 and will seamlessly follow the story of the main game. Another upcoming project based on the Horizon brand is called Call of the Mountain.
Horizon: Call of the Mountain is a virtual reality adventure that is part of the PlayStation VR2 launch titles and will therefore be available from February 22nd, 2023. You slip into the role of the new character Ryas, who according to the developer comes from a noble Carja family and is a master climber. We have more details about the protagonist of the VR spin-off here summarized for you.
More news on the topic:
Recently, the rumor has persisted that a technically revamped remake or at least a remaster of “Horizon: Zero Dawn” for the PlayStation 5 is being worked on, which, however, should not be created by Guerrilla Games. An official confirmation of the new edition is still pending.
