Polish President Andrzej Duda announced the transfer of Leopard 2 tanks to Ukraine during a visit to Lviv and a meeting with President Zelensky. The meeting was also attended by Lithuanian President Gitanas Nauseda, who promised to transfer air defense systems and anti-aircraft installations to Ukraine.

According to the President of Poland, his country decided to transfer a company of Leopard 2 tanks to Ukraine. In the armies of the world, the size of a tank company varies from 10 to 14. Probably, we are talking about 10 tanks, the transfer of which the Polish side hinted at earlier. The tanks will be transferred as part of an international coalition – obviously, similar assistance is expected from other countries.
President Gitanas Nauseda announced Lithuania’s decision to transfer air defense and anti-aircraft installations to Ukraine, without mentioning a specific nomenclature. The President of Lithuania mentioned the provision of military assistance to Ukraine by his country from the very first days of the war. Lithuania is one of the countries that transferred the largest number of weapons as a percentage of its own GDP. The total amount of Lithuanian military assistance to Ukraine is 283 million euros.

Also, the presidents of Ukraine, Poland and Lithuania signed a Joint Declaration, which fixes the support of the Polish and Lithuanian side for Ukraine’s membership in the EU and NATO, when conditions allow.
The transfer of Leopard 2 tanks is an important precedent that opens up such an opportunity for other countries. Combat vehicles originally made in Germany are manufactured, modified and in service in more than ten countries – primarily in Europe. No less important would be a possible step by Germany in this direction – Chancellor Scholz is ready to transfer heavy armored vehicles to Ukraine only in coalition with other countries. In addition to Germany, Finland, Sweden and Spain expressed their readiness to help Ukraine with tanks.
