01/11/2023 at 17:00 by Philipp Sattler – For the change of ID on January 11, 2023 in WoW we saw some massive buffs for many classes. In return, there are also a whole bunch of nerfs. However, these relate to the performance of the gameplay in PvP. Demon hunters and priests in particular have to take a beating.
Balancing remains one of the biggest construction sites in WoW: Dragonflight. Whether it’s the difficulty levels of the dungeons or the balancing of the classes in PvE – wherever you look, the developers are making one adjustment after the next. At the start of the current ID (January 11), the developers distributed a lot of buffs to many ways of playing to ensure better balancing. But that was just PvE.
In PvP, on the other hand, the devs go a different way. There the credo “rather buff the weak than nerf the strong” does not seem to apply. Because the developers just throw nerfs around. While some classes get off quite lightly and, for example, individual skills are nerfed so that they can no longer one-shot, others have to take massive nerfs. Above all, the demon hunters and the shadow priests.

Blizzard
player versus player
class demon hunter[Mit wöchentlichen Neustarts] Soulmangle lifesteal reduced by 40% in PvP combat.Havoc[Mit wöchentlichen Neustarts] Glancing Glance (PvP talent) damage reduction reduced to 35% (was 75%).[Mit wöchentlichen Neustarts] Essence Rupture’s damage bonus for Chaos Strike and Blade Dance has been reduced by 37.5% in PvP combat.[Mit wöchentlichen Neustarts] Soul Ripper’s damage has been reduced by 16.7% in PvP combat.Developer Notes: We’ve found Havoc Demon Hunters to perform above average in several areas of PvP, including personal survivability, burst damage, and overall DPS. We have taken steps to reduce their effectiveness in these areas while still keeping them competitive. Caller Preservation[Mit wöchentlichen Neustarts] Energy Loop’s mana regeneration has been reduced by 25% in PvP combat (with weekly restarts).Developer Notes: Energy Loop’s mana restoration has outperformed its contribution in PvE due to the game-wide reduction in mana regeneration in PvP instances. We’re adjusting this effect to balance it with the expected benefits, but still want this effect to remain a powerful option as we feel it can lead to compelling decision-making with Essence resources.Mage Arcane[Mit wöchentlichen Neustarts] Stormcharge’s effectiveness has been reduced by 50% in PvP combat (with weekly restarts).Developer Notes: Stormcharge has been a proven culprit for one-shot scenarios, so we’ve greatly reduced its effectiveness.Frost[Mit wöchentlichen Neustarts] Glacial Spike damage increased by Mastery: Icicles has been reduced by 25%. This will be reflected in the tooltip in a later patch.Monk[Mit wöchentlichen Neustarts] Blackout Kick damage increased by 30% in PvP combat (was 15%).[Mit wöchentlichen Neustarts] Tiger Palm damage increased by 30% in PvP combat (was 15%).Mistweaver[Mit wöchentlichen Neustarts] Rising Sun Kick now deals 12.5% additional damage in PvP (up from 25%).Developers Note: We’re trying to balance the upcoming PvE buffs to Rising Sun Kick as we believe it’s currently strong enough to be effective for Mistweavers in PvP.Windwalker[Mit wöchentlichen Neustarts] “Thunderfist” damage has been reduced by 40% in PvP combat.[Mit wöchentlichen Neustarts] Skyfare Increases critical hit chance in PvP combat by 30% (from 50%).[Mit wöchentlichen Neustarts] Fists of Fury damage has been increased by 15% in PvP combat.Developer Notes: Windwalker burst remains above a level that we are happy with. We went after Thunderfist and Skyfarion as they were a big part of it. We’re also increasing her sustained damage as we feel that this can still be improved by reducing her burst.Priest(With weekly restarts) Healing from Flash Heal has been increased by 30% in PvP combat (from 20%) .Holy[Mit wöchentlichen Neustarts] Heal healing increased by 35% in PvP combat (up from 25%). (With weekly restarts) Holy Word: Ephany healing increased by 15% in PvP combat.Developer Notes: In previous patches, the Reduced the healing effectiveness of Holy Priests in PvP, which we now deem unnecessary and are reverting. We also felt that Holy Word: Ephany wasn’t as effective as we would have liked when it came to burst damage, so we’re increasing that stat as well.Shadow(With weekly restarts) Shadow Word: Death’s damage has been increased Reduced by 30% for Shadow only in PvP combat (from 20%).[Mit wöchentlichen Neustarts] Mind Blast damage reduced by 25% in PvP combat for Shadow only.[Mit wöchentlichen Neustarts] Mind Spike’s damage has been reduced by 25% in PvP combat.[Mit wöchentlichen Neustarts] Devouring Plague’s damage has been reduced by 25% in PvP combat.[Mit wöchentlichen Neustarts] Vampiric Touch damage reduced by 5% (increased 10%) in PvP combat.[Mit wöchentlichen Neustarts] Shadowy Insight’s trigger rate has been reduced by 25% in PvP combat.[Mit wöchentlichen Neustarts] Tide of Darkness trigger rate has been reduced by 25% in PvP combat.Developer Notes: The Shadow Priest has widely outperformed, so we’re trying to balance recent PvE buffs on him and his defensive powers with changes to “Focused Will”. We’re also reducing the availability of direct spells, as we feel Shadow Priests don’t need to cast spells with cast time as often as we would like.Rogue Assassination[Mit wöchentlichen Neustarts] Improved Garrote damage bonus reduced by 40% in PvP combat.[Mit wöchentlichen Neustarts] Iron Wire’s damage reduction now has a PvP duration of 4 seconds (up from 8 seconds).Developer Notes: Single Target Garrote Backstab’s area and single target damage was very high. We’re targeting this by reducing the effectiveness of Improved Garrote. Also, the damage reduction effect of “Iron Wire” felt too strong to prevent enemy pressure.WarlockDemonology[Mit wöchentlichen Neustarts] Demonic Strength unleashes a Fel Storm, dealing 150% more damage (up from 400%) in PvP combat.[Mit wöchentlichen Neustarts] Demon Fire damage increased by 75% in PvP combat.[Mit wöchentlichen Neustarts] Dreadbite’s damage has been reduced by 10% in PvP combat.Developer Notes: We find that Demonic Strength can be a difficult spell to notice and underperforms compared to Demon Bane and its associated spells. We want to adjust the Demonologist’s burst sources, aiming for them to have the same relative strength. Also, we want to reduce the overall pressure of demonology a bit by targeting Dreadbite.Warrior[Mit wöchentlichen Neustarts] Defensive Stance now reduces damage dealt in PvP combat by 15% (up from 20%).Developer Notes: Defensive Stance was adjusted in previous patches to address damage issues that we believe are no longer present in Warriors. We’re increasing the damage done while in defensive stance to increase offensive pressure without sacrificing defensive stance.
