Video service YouTube once again tightened the rules, turning off monetization from a huge number of videos containing obscene language and footage from violent games.

The authors report that their videos have age restrictions, and some have been completely disconnected from the monetization system, which for many is the main source of income. Even those who avoided showing especially violent scenes from games and swearing in the frame were affected – as it turned out, YouTube equated even rude language with obscene language.

Previously, the service had a differentiation of words by “levels of rudeness” (low, medium, high and extreme). At the same time, in the first 30 seconds of the video, it was possible to use words no higher than the average level, and this did not affect monetization.

Many authors from the gaming segment note that the disabling of ad units affected their old videos. Yes blogger. Daniel Condren from the channel RTGame contacted the site when he noticed that his videos received age restrictions, and this was not preceded by receiving notifications related to the situation.

Condren’s attempt to fix the problem was unsuccessful, but even more videos fell under the restriction without explanation. Daniel noted that he considers the attempt to contact YouTube a mistake – according to the blogger, he attracted the attention of the moderators and only aggravated his situation.

The other victim was penguinz0, on the channel which has 12 million subscribers. He also lost monetization on a large number of videos. According to his blogger, the channel has taken a major hit. As an example, he cited one video that focused on useful information and good news, but lost monetization due to the word “shit”.

Representatives of the site have not yet commented on the sharp tightening of the rules, and in the letters received by bloggers from YouTube representatives, the latter only indicate the need to comply with the established “guidelines”.
