The streaming provider boom seems to be over. The past year clearly shows that growth has come to an end. The market seems to be saturated with platforms, subscription models, exclusive films and series. Netflix in particular is struggling. In the first quarter of 2022 there was a drop in subscription numbers for the first time. And despite new hits like the fourth season of Stranger Things or Wednesday, it was hardly possible to develop new customers. But Disney Plus is no longer a sure-fire success either. Despite fears of losing subscribers, the price had to be increased by two dollars. In the US, HBO max has now followed suit.
Streaming provider HBO max inspires with Harry Potter, Game of Thrones and Co.
In May 2020, the streaming provider HBO max went on the air in the USA. This is Warner Bros. Discovery’s VoD platform. As one of the largest media companies in the world, Warner brings franchises like Harry Potter, the DC Comics universe with heroes like Superman, Batman, The Flash and Aquaman, as well as unique series like Game of Thrones under its roof.
With Zack Snyder’s Justice League or DC’s Peacemaker, exclamation marks were set that received much attention. House of the Dragon thrilled last year with the prelude to Game of Thrones, which was told in the usual dramatic and gripping way. And with The Last of Us, the long-awaited series about the legendary post-apocalyptic Playstation games of the same name starts next week on Monday, January 16th, 2023.
Streaming provider HBO max increases prices shortly before The Last of Us
HBO max is raising prices as the potentially hit series starring Pedro Pascal (Star Wars: The Mandalorian, Wonder Woman) and Bella Ramsey (Game of Thrones) begins. For the first time in the history of the streaming provider, subscribers will have to pay more from February. The price increases from $14.99 to $15.99.

Can you watch HBO max in Germany? Due to current contracts with Sky or RTL+, it can easily take until 2025 for HBO max to start in Germany. Sky broadcasts the award-winning series and The Last of Us. For the series subscription you pay 7.99 euros in Germany, if you book the entertainment package with films, 9.98 euros are due. The price increase in the USA has not yet had a negative effect. If you are only interested in the series, you can still get away comparatively cheaply in Germany.
