As the generally well-informed industry insider Tom Henderson reports, a beta test for the PlayStation 5 firmware 7.00 will start shortly. This is intended to introduce a cloud streaming function for PlayStation 5 titles.
Rumors about PlayStation 5 firmware 7.00 have been circulating over the past few months. Among other things, it was speculated that the full integration of the voice chat program Discord could be part of the new firmware.
The well-known industry insider Tom Henderson, who has repeatedly made a name for himself as a reliable source in the past, is providing new topics of conversation these days. As Henderson reports, the cloud streaming function of PlayStation Plus Premium will be expanded with the firmware update to version 7.00.
As is well known, this allows you to stream games from the original PlayStation, the PlayStation 2, the PlayStation 3 or the PlayStation Portable via the cloud. According to Henderson, the PlayStation 5 will expand this feature with the release of firmware 7.00.
Release of the new firmware in March?
In order to test the streaming of PlayStation 5 titles via the cloud before the official release of the new firmware, according to Henderson, a beta test of the PS5 firmware 7.00 will be launched in a few days. Henderson also reports, citing unspecified sources, that the Discord application will not be available as part of the beta test.
Instead, the focus will be entirely on the cloud streaming feature for PlayStation 5 titles, which Henderson’s sources say has been in development for some time and was internally codenamed “Cronus.” Sony Interactive Entertainment officials have not yet commented on Henderson’s statements.

However, since Microsoft has been actively working on expanding its own cloud gaming presence in the recent past in order to offer Xbox Game Pass and its content on as many platforms as possible, such a step should make sense for Sony Interactive Entertainment in order to compete with the competitor from Redmond not to leave the field without a fight in this area.
