A recent survey in Great Britain got to the bottom of the question of which system is used by the players as their main console. One system in particular stood out.
A few days ago we received the news that the race for the best-selling console of 2022 in Great Britain ended with a very close result.
Accordingly, the switch secured the title of the most successful console of the year before the PlayStation 5 and the Xbox Series X/S. The bottom line is that the systems in the UK sales year 2022 were just 60,000 units apart.
A current survey, in which the market researchers from Ampere Analysis got to the bottom of the question of which platforms were preferred by British players in the fourth quarter of 2022 as the main platform, was a little clearer.
At least the question about the winner of the survey can be answered very clearly. According to Ampere Analysis, 71 percent of respondents who own the PlayStation 5 disc version said it’s the console they use the most.
Digital Edition of the PlayStation 5 drops noticeably
While 49 percent of Switch owners said they use the console-handheld hybrid as their preferred system, this figure is 48 percent for the Xbox Series X. The next places are followed by the digital edition of the PlayStation 5 with a value of 43 percent and the Xbox Series S at the bottom, which is only used by 35 percent of its owners as the main console.
According to the analysts from Ampere Analysis, the high value of the PlayStation 5 disc version is probably due to the fact that the majority of players here apparently do not have another console. “However, this does not fully explain the differences […] between the disc-based PS5 version and Microsoft’s Xbox Series X, its main competitor in the market.”
More news on the topic:
Ampere Analysis went on to say that winning the survey does not automatically mean that the PlayStation 5 is also the most played. On the one hand, according to the market researchers, the high value of the disc version of the PlayStation 5 indicates that Sony Interactive Entertainment’s strategy of binding users to the platform with high-quality exclusive titles worked.
On the other hand, the Xbox Series consoles could become a serious competitor in terms of usage time in 2023, as various potential first-party highlights will appear with “Starfield”, “Redfall” or “Forza Motorsport”, which will be available from day one will be available in Xbox Game Pass.
