Are you and your friends or partner not in the same location, but do you still want to watch a movie or series on Netflix together? Then consider the Flickcall extension for Google Chrome that lets you watch and pause together as you wish.
The lockdowns are over now, but you will undoubtedly end up in a situation where it is not possible to sit together with a box of popcorn and watch a movie or series. When your friends are on vacation, for example, or when your partner is on a business trip.
Step 1: Install Flickcall
In this workshop we look at how to use Flickcall with Netflix, but the tool is also easy to use with Disney +, HBO Max, Amazon Prime and even YouTube. So endless possibilities. Like any extension for Google Chrome, Flickcall is very easy to install. If you know how an extension works, you can immediately navigate to the Google Chrome webstore and install it. If you need a little more help, you can find it on the Flickcall website.
Click on ‘Add to Chrome’ or ‘Add to Chrome’ in the webstore and let your browser do the work. Watched enough? Then you can remove the extension via Chrome’s extension settings, which can also be found by typing chrome://extensions/ in your browser.
Step 2: Using Flickcall
Using Flickcall is almost even easier than installing the extension. You just surf to the streaming service you want to use and start watching. When you start a movie or series, the Flickcall logo will appear at the top right. Click on this, choose ‘Start Party’ and a watch party will start. You can choose to keep control of your watch party as the host, or let everyone choose for themselves. This is of course the easiest for spontaneous pee breaks.
Share the invitation with your friends so they can easily join the party. Once in order, your movie will play on the left, while you will see your friends on the right, although you must register first for this option. A good alternative is to use a chat app such as Discord for the social part of watching together. You can then start this on your phone, so that you can keep the audio sources of the films and series and the conversation separate. Of course, Facebook Messenger works just as well.
