As we’ve been reporting, next year we’re going to see some differences in the way Apple does things in the iOS world. That is, we will see a new Ultra model, we will see the cheaper non-Pro models, and with the new island on the screen, among other things. But it should be in 2024 that we will see more serious news, as the iPhone 16 Pro, and probably the iPhone 16 Ultra (if the first Ultra is a success), will bring some new features in screen design.
After all, Apple is currently planning to do away with the holes that we can now find on the iPhone 14 Pro, leaving just a single hole for the front camera. Everything else will be hidden under the screen. What does a single hole mean? Well, a much smaller island, and most likely, a repeat of the 2022 strategy, where the front design of top models is slightly different from the front design of cheaper models.
iPhone 16 Pro will have news on the screen!
So what is the dream of any manufacturer in the world of smartphones? It’s having a screen without any hole or notch. Something somewhat complicated, but that little by little, is becoming more and more a reality.
By the way, I currently have a RedMagic 8 Pro (Nubia) in my hands for analysis, which already has the front camera hidden under the OLED screen, and despite that, it is even capable of being decent at capturing selfies. Obviously, the photographic quality is not at all equivalent to that of an iPhone or Galaxy S22. Incidentally, as long as there is an impact on image quality, I do not believe that the major manufacturers choose to implement this technology. But there’s only one truth… Gradually, we’re getting there!
Which is exactly why in 2024, at the time of the iPhone 16 Pro, Apple will already be able to hide several of the sensors essential to the operation of Face ID, which it has not yet managed to hide, all under Samsung’s OLED screen. Which is exactly why the Dynamic Island will get smaller.
In case you didn’t know, the current size of the island is due to the fact that there are two holes on the iPhone screen, one in the shape of a tablet (oval) and the other in the shape of a circle (front camera) connected by some pixels that are very much alive, but are decommissioned by order of Apple.
Therefore, with only one hole, Apple will take the opportunity to refresh the now famous Island. It could be a change that should result in an island at least 50% smaller.
