The development of the national mobile operating system will be carried out by the best specialists of the companies VK, Yandex, Sberbank and Rostelecom, Anton Gorelkin, deputy chairman of the Duma Committee on Information Policy, assured the public of this. He also made it clear that the financing of the project will be carried out at the expense of the companies themselves. That is, the requested state funding will not be here.
At the end of last year, we wrote about plans to create a national mobile operating system in a separate article. Then it was about the fact that VK, Yandex and Rostelecom intend to create a company that will develop a new mobile operating system based on Android and a platform that will replace Google Mobile Services (GMS). There was no talk about the amount of state support then. But, for example, for the domestic Aurora OS, the budget financing of which was not supported by the State Duma, the developers asked for a record 480 billion rubles.
As for the national mobile OS from VK, Yandex and other companies, Anton Gorelkin, deputy chairman of the Duma Committee on Information Policy, prepared and released a voluminous commentary on the refusal of state funding in his personal Telegram channel.
The official is convinced that the conglomerate of developers will repeat the success of Huawei, which was under US sanctions and was forced to create its own operating system that is fully compatible with Android, but with its own basic services, including an application store.
“VK already has such a store, Yandex has a map service and interface developments, and Sber owns the most popular fintech service in the country. It remains to combine all this and release it to the market – the task is quite achievable in a relatively short time, ”summed up Anton Gorelkin. The Deputy Chairman of the Duma Committee expressed confidence that the process of developing the future OS will be as open as possible – otherwise it will not be possible to count on the status of “people’s”.

Anton Gorelkin also mentioned a rather obvious fact that the conglomerate of developers lacks a key link – the manufacturer of these same mobile devices on which the domestic mobile OS will be installed. Therefore, in the future, there should be more participants in a promising project.
