Of the most anticipated games in 2023, Hogwarts Legacy holds a good place. A role-playing game set in the Harry Potter universe, the aptly named Hogwarts Legacy should be one of the most immersive titles in the franchise. In the making for several years, the work of Warner Bros. is scrutinized and some do not hesitate to call for a boycott after the controversial remarks of the author JK Rowling. Therefore, those connected to Hogwarts Legacy find themselves in the storm and try to defend themselves.
Last week, Heartstopper star Sebastian Croft was confirmed in the cast of the game Hogwarts Legacy: Hogwarts Legacy. The British actor, who stars as Ben Hope in the Netflix television series, will play the homeroom teacher at Hogwarts. In the wake of this announcement, fans unhappy with the previous statements of JK Rowling (accused of transphobia) stepped up to the plate, forcing the comedian to defend himself.
I was chosen for this project over 3 years ago, back when all Harry Potter was to me was the wizarding world I grew up with. That was long before I knew about JK Rowling’s opinions. I wholeheartedly believe that trans women are women and trans men are men. I know a lot more now than 3 years ago and I hope to learn even more in the next 3 three years. I am truly sorry for everyone who has been hurt by this announcement. There is no LGB without the T.

I believe whole heartedly that trans women are women and trans men are men. https://t.co/QTAMClZDda— Sebastian Croft (@SebastianCroft) January 14, 2023
While staying true to the original vision, Hogwarts Legacy is not signed by JK Rowling (if the game’s FAQ is to be believed).
Chairman of Warner Bros. answer in turn
For the past few years, all interested parties revolving around Hogwarts Legacy have been regularly targeted, which has earned the president of Warner Bros. attempt to calm the situation in the fall of 2020. In a meeting with the shareholders – and therefore via the minutes of said meeting – David Haddad explained:
Although JK Rowling is the creator of Harry Potter, and we bring this world to life through the power of the Portkey studio, she is also a private citizen in many places. And that means she has the right to express her personal opinion on social media. I can disagree with her, and I can disagree with her position on a range of issues, but I can agree that she is entitled to her opinions.
Since then, many actors / actresses stars of the films have marked their withdrawal from the words of JK Rowling, in particular the three main actors, Emma Watson, Daniel Radcliffe and Rupert Grint.
Harry Potter: Hogwarts Legacy will arrive on February 10 on PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X/S and PC. In the continuity of this launch, the PlayStation 4 and Xbox One versions will be released on April 4. Owners of Nintendo Switch, meanwhile, will have to wait until July 25, but it should be noted that they are not forgotten (unlike other titles) and that’s a pleasure.
