In an interview, leaders behind the original Silent Hill 2 spoke about the upcoming remake currently in development at Bloober Team. According to then-concept artist Masahiro Ito, nothing less than an “incredible experience” is expected from the Polish studio.
Last October, Konami officially announced the remake of the legendary survival horror classic “Silent Hill 2” and revealed that it will be created by “The Medium” and “Blair Witch” creators Team Bloober.
As the minds behind the 2001 original revealed in an interview with Gamingbolt, Konami first approached the original developers before enlisting Bloober Team to work on the remake. Commenting on Konami’s choice, then-producer Motoi Okamoto said, “I feel like they take their work very seriously and they think video games are even more art than we thought.”
“Japanese people are so reluctant to declare video games as art, you know? But I have a feeling they really believe that. That’s why they treat Silent Hill’s artistic sound and visuals with so much respect.”
Producer highlights Bloober Team’s talent
On Bloober Team as developers, Okamoto added: “First of all, Bloober Team is amazingly talented at creating environments. You can really experience what James is feeling just by walking through the foggy city. I think they are excellent at creating backgrounds, environments and atmospheres. In addition, they pay a lot of attention to the combat to make the gameplay so much deeper. I see them as very hard workers who are full of love for Silent Hill.”
Masahiro Ito, the concept artist responsible for the original “Silent Hill 2”, believes that Bloober Team will deliver an “incredible experience” with the remake: “I’m very satisfied with the quality of the city and the atmosphere from Silent Hill 2 that they make. I really feel that they respect the original while still making sure to arrange things their way. […] I believe from the bottom of my heart that they are doing something incredible.”
