Starfield: teased, bought, announced, postponed… and postponed again?
Featured in a short teaser during E3 2018, Starfield is a project that has already seen twists and turns. Originally planned on all machines, including PlayStation, the acquisition of ZeniMax, parent company of Bethesda, by Microsoft led to the announcement of the exclusivity of the title on PC and Xbox Series. During the combined Microsoft and Bethesda conference during E3 2021, we learned that the game would be released on November 11, 2022, eleven years after The Elder Scrolls V Skyrim, to the day. But last May, Bethesda announced the postponement of the titlenow planned for the first half of 2023. At the beginning of January, Bethesda confirmed on its official website that Starfield would indeed be released in the first half, but the latest rumors announce a new postponement …
Still planned for this summer, but later?
During the last episode of the Defining Duke podcast on YouTube, a show dedicated to the Xbox ecosystem, a guest was present, the reputable leaker MrMattyPlays. Already known for several leaks of information that turned out to be correct about Bethesdathe leaker claimed to have information from an anonymous source (anonymity is normal in this kind of case, to protect the source) who always provided accurate information. According to this source, Starfield would be pushed back again. But MrMattyPlays remains optimistic: if postponed, it would only be a few weeks.
Starfield would still arrive this summer but it’s possible it could be pushed back beyond the first half of 2023.
In other words, we would expect the RPG for the month of July or August.
An event dedicated to Starfield to announce the official date?
Bethesda would indeed need to continue to retouch certain elements of the game. It is therefore potentially frustrating to see the game pushed back again for the fans, but it seems rather good news if it can help polish the title highly anticipated from Bethesda. This postponement would perhaps explain Microsoft’s recent announcement on its blog. Indeed, the manufacturer has announced a new live event, the Xbox Developer Direct, for January 25. But in his statement on the event, Microsoft announces information on five games : The Elder Scrolls Online, Forza Motorsport, Minecraft Legends, et Redfall. No Starfield, and for good reason, Microsoft is planning an event specially dedicated to the title:
In order to offer Starfield, the new game from Bethesda Game Studio, all the time necessary to present it in detail, a dedicated event is being prepared.
We therefore imagine that we could have a definitive release date for Starfield at this dedicated eventwhich we do not yet know when it will take place.
