The Government of India is passing a bill for equate traditional video games, eSports with cash prizes and gambling, so as to bring these categories into a single group, thus merging normally separate sectors.
However, Indian game developers are not in it and as many as 44 development studios in the country have united to go against the new government proposal.
“It is neither fair nor fair to group those involved in video games and those who instead have gambling as their business in the same sector. These are two very different segments that also require very distinct rules and laws” reads the press release sent to the Government local by the group, which points out that no country in the world includes gambling revenues when it comes to preparing reports on the health of the video game market.
The consortium is asking local authorities to distinguish well between traditional video games and online gambling gamesthe Indian video game developers are worried about a possible unification of the two denominations and categories, furthermore the group invites the Government to create an internal regulation system like PEGI or ESRB, so as to protect the youngest from possible dangers and preventing the very young come into contact with content that is inappropriate for their age.
