Very bad patch for Ubisoft which is facing one of the biggest crises in its history. A call for a strike was launched following the remarks ofYves Guillemot, the co-founder of the French video game company. According to the Solidaires Informatique trade union, the “organizational adjustments” which have been announced would notably mean a lot of layoffs via “discreet closures of the studios” and reduction in staff. In this strike call, Yves Guillemot is clearly accused of absolving himself of responsibility by expecting Ubisoft employees to be “as efficient as possible” and to give “the best of ourselves”, implying that this will bring overtime, managerial pressure or even burnouts. The strike is scheduled for Friday, January 27 from 2 p.m. to 6 p.m.
What are the demands of Ubisoft employees?
The union refers to four main demands. The first concerns a 10% increase in all salaries to offset inflation. This is a decision that has already been taken at Ubisoft in Canada, according to our sources, and which has not yet been applied in all subsidiaries. Improving working conditions was also requested with setting up the 4 day week. Always in the claims, total transparency with regard to changes in the workforce has been requestedet a commitment against disguised dismissals et condemnation of abusive managerial behavior who seek to push employees towards resignation.
