01/17/2023 at 09:12 by Sara Petzold – The WoW developers will provide players with new options for dealing with motion sickness for Dragonflight when WoW Patch 10.0.5 is released. We summarize for you which settings you can make in the future.
Dragon riding is one of the major new features of the current WoW expansion Dragonflight and continues to enjoy great popularity among the community. However, flying on the back of a dragon at high speed causes problems for some players: the result is motion sickness, i.e. discomfort or nausea caused by passive movement.
In order to improve the gameplay for affected users in WoW (buy now) Dragonflight, the WoW developers have prepared some additional options for the first content update WoW Patch 10.0.5 to support players in dealing with motion sickness. The options are already available in the current Patch 10.0.5 PTR build and will come into play with the release of the update on January 25, 2023.
Focus circle and landscape darkening are intended to reduce motion sickness
To access the Motion Sickness options, go to the game’s Settings and navigate to Accessibility -> General. Here, under the motion sickness option, you’ll now find a second option called motion sickness while riding a dragon. If you click on the associated drop-down menu, you have the options “landscape darkening” and “focus circle” in addition to the standard setting, which you can activate individually or together.
The Landscape Darkening option causes the landscape around the edges of your screen to appear darker than normal. The darkening increases the faster you move while riding the dragon. This creates a kind of tunnel vision that can reduce the occurrence of motion sickness.
When you activate the focus circle, a white target circle will appear around your dragon in the center of the screen. The circle reduces the impression of artificial, swaying locomotion created when riding a kite and can thereby also help to reduce motion sickness.
