Suspicious things happened on the official Ark: Survival Evolved Twitter account last week. The developers of Studio Wildcard tweeted a meme that made fans and players believe that there could soon be a remaster of the open-world survival game Ark: Survival Evolved in Unreal Engine 5. The game, which is now more than five years old, was originally developed in the Unreal Engine 4.5, but it remains questionable whether the tweet should be taken seriously. After all, the developers are now working on the second part of the series, for which Unreal Engine 5 is officially intended.

The artist implements the supposed project
Just three days after the tweet was dropped, a youtuber named “Greg Coulthard” posted his own UE5 concept of Ark: Survival Evolved (buy now), which he wants to use to give a possible preview of Ark 2. Due to the short time interval, it can be assumed that Studio Wildcard’s tweet was not decisive for the Youtuber’s work, but it cannot be ruled out. Greg Coulthard has taken the The Island map from Ark: Survival Evolved and implemented part of it in the Unreal Engine 5.1. In the video description, the creator explains that all assets, apart from the grass, used nanites and lumens for the lighting.

Besides the landscape, which is nicely staged, you can also spot some dinosaurs in the video, as you would expect from Ark: Survival Evolved. The video is over 18 minutes long and shows quite impressively what is possible with the Unreal Engine 5. The Xbox exclusive Ark 2 will then probably show what can actually be implemented with the engine and whether the many fan concepts on the net, apart from Ark 2, come close. Not much is known about the second part. The release is scheduled for this year, and there was a trailer for it last summer.

Vin Diesel, who also serves as executive producer on the project, plays the protagonist Santiago, who struggles to survive with his loved ones in prehistoric times. In the short trailer, he can be seen riding a T-Rex-like dinosaur and trampling on smaller Velociraptor-like dinosaurs. How the gameplay will develop remains to be seen. Meanwhile, the developers note that players will join forces with legendary heroes and face some mysterious “dark forces”.
