The merger deal between Microsoft and Activision Blizzard backed by another side European Game Developers Federation (EGDF), which has already issued a statement to that effect.
It should be noted that the EGDF includes 23 national trade associations representing more than 2.5 thousand game development studios from 22 European countries. Most of these studios are small and medium-sized enterprises employing over 40,000 people.
In a statement, the European Game Developers Federation says that the deal between Microsoft and Activision Blizzard has a potential positive effect on competition that outweighs known concerns. The deal will help Microsoft challenge competitors in the console, mobile gaming and cloud gaming markets.
At the same time, EGDF acknowledges that Microsoft may not keep its promises, which has been seen in the past, and also engage in activities that undermine fair competition. Therefore, the organization welcomes the thorough investigation of the transaction by the European Commission and encourages Microsoft to continue its efforts to support competition in the gaming markets.
