The Nintendo Switch has often been described as a console designed for thirties, in particular thanks to the many remakes of old titles taking advantage of Nintendo’s hybrid to get people talking about them again. Today we bring up the rumored return of Baten Kaitos: Eternal Wings and the Lost Ocean.
Summary
The beloved but underselling JRPGWhispers of a comeback
The appreciated but little sold JRPG
If you’re under 20, you may not know Baten Kaitos: Eternal Wings and the Lost Ocean. Released in 2003 in Japan on the GameCube, the software developed by Monolith Soft and tri-Crescendo is a JRPG where the player embodied a kind of spirit who had to guide Kalas and his small team in a universe made up of floating islands. The game particularly impressed gamers of the time with its original combat system based on turn-based and card game elements.. Despite its good reviews, the software published by Namco did not meet the expected success in terms of sales. The very good Baten Kaitos Origins (never arrived here) released in certain territories in 2006 did not manage to reverse the trend: after the cancellation of the Baten Kaitos DS project, the franchise was no longer talked about on our game consoles. Monolith Soft then decides to focus on another series which will have a happier fate with Xenoblade Chronicles.
The whispers of a return
At a time when remakes of old glories are thrilling the crowds, the eXputer site assures that according to its sources, Bandai Namco and Monolith Soft are developing a technically refreshed version of Baten Kaitos. The title would be a Nintendo Switch exclusive. Officially, Monolith Soft has been talking about its desire to bring the series back for several years, but for the moment, the existence of this remake is only at the rumor stage. Nevertheless, eXputer claims to have had access to “graphic evidence” that it is unfortunately “not possible to share”. According to the site, this remake should be released during the summer of 2023 and should be unveiled soon by Nintendo. The article specifies that if Nintendo’s father is involved in the project, it is still difficult to know at what level.
The latest game developed by Monolith Soft is Xenoblade Chronicles 3, released in 2022 on Switch. Since then, we do not know what project the studio is working on.
