Particularly interesting are the numbers from the US market, which the well-known analyst now Mat Piscatella published by the NPD Group. Among other things, he answers the question of the best-selling console of 2022.
Nintendo Switch beats them all
Piscatella recently took to the field in the form of numerous tweets to present some interesting stats from the gaming industry over the past year. Among other things, it was also about hardware sales on the US market: According to this, the Nintendo Switch (buy now €332.99) was the best-selling console in 2022. The analyst did not name the other rankings, but the PS5 was at least able to celebrate a very good end of the year: No other console sold more copies on the US market in December 2022.
The information on the total figures for hardware sales is also interesting. According to Mat Piscatella, this has increased by eight percent compared to the previous year. Overall, US citizens have spent around 6.6 billion dollars on gaming hardware in the past twelve months, so the positive trend is continuing. In this respect, things went particularly well in December 2022 with sales of 1.5 billion dollars, which was probably mainly due to the Christmas business.
