In a market overloaded with electrified novelties, Renault has decided to make its new “weapon” official for the world of RALLY. With a super interesting bet for the new competition, with the fifth generation of its Renault Clio! A special car, prepared to face anything.
Therefore, the new Clio Rally3 was officially unveiled on January 17, the first Renault Clio equipped with four-wheel drive. Co-developed by several teams such as Viry-Châtillon, Manufacture Alpine Dieppe Jean Rédélé and the BWT Alpine F1 Team in Estone.
So what is the end result?
Well, the company’s new rally model was just presented at the Circuito de Pas de la Casa in Andorra, after an enormous testing phase. However, despite all this, the Clio Rally3 still awaits the homologation process by the International Automobile Federation (FIA).
Renault Clio Rally3 – Four Wheel Drive and much more!
Well, as I reported above, this is the first Clio produced by Renault with four-wheel drive thanks to the same technology based on Rally4. That is, a rear transmission was added to generate four-wheel drive and a huge sharing of components including the platform already well tested by the Alpine Racing team.
Let’s go to the numbers?
The engine of the new model focused on the Rally championships is equipped with the motor turbo 1.3 TCe four cylinders and 16 valves. However, don’t let the size of the engine fool you – the numbers exceed expectations. Therefore, this 1.3 TCe is able to reach the power of 260 cv e 415 nm binary and go to 7.400 RPM.
To hold and send all this power to the ground, Renault has included the five-speed SADEV sequential gearbox, with self-locking differential. A curious fact is that the company informed that 299 engine map studies were requireduntil you can safely reach this power.
Complete testing phase made the model cover 4,500 kilometers of tests on land and asphalt!
The entire development and creation of the new Clio Rally3 lasted about 6 months and the testing phase carried out in Spain lasted 22 days, 4,500 kilometers and 8 drivers and 11 co-drivers to reach the defined objectives!.
In short, the versatility, performance and reliability of the Clio Rally 3 has already been proven and Renault is currently awaiting FIA homologation. In order to guarantee the world of Rally a new strong competitor.
