When is The Witcher season 3 release date?
For the moment, we do not know what day will be released season 3 of The Witcher. However, a rather specific clue was given by Lauren Schmidt Hissrich, screenwriter and showrunner of the series. Indeed, she declared last December that the series was currently in the post-production phase, indicating that the filming was finished. More specifically, she said, “We still have a very long way to go, about eight months until The Witcher Season 3 comes out.” Netflix had announced the new episodes for summer 2023. A release around July-August 2023 is therefore very likely.
Like the first seasons, Part 3 of The Witcher will premiere exclusively on Netflix. It arrives a few months after the spin-off called Blood Origin. The latter takes place 1000 years before the events featuring Geralt of Rivia and received a more than mixed reception with a very bitter 34% on RottenTomatoes. The opinions do not get better when you scrutinize the spectator rating which flirts dangerously with 10%. The third season of the stories of the iconic Witcher will therefore have the mission of raising the bar, especially since its second season has been very popular (95% according to RottenTomatoes critics).
What is the story of The Witcher season 3?
According to information shared by the showrunner of the series, this new season adapts the elements of the fourth volume of the literary franchise. Written by Andrzej Sapkowski and published in 1995, this book called The Time of Contempt recounts the following events according to the official summary provided by its French publishing house: “The peace that once reigned between kings and magicians is no longer. The young Ciri, a promising student destined to become a witcher, finds herself at the heart of rivalries. What will be her role in the coming conflicts? Only the general assembly of magicians will be able to unveil the intrigues and reveal the traitors. “He then of Ciri, object of all desires? The legendary witcher Geralt of Rivia, now linked to this child like a father to his daughter, will he be able to save her?” (Editions Bragelonne – The Witcher: The Time of Contempt)
Who are the creatives behind The Witcher Season 3?
As mentioned above, the main producer and showrunner of the series is called Lauren Schmidt Hissrich. In place since the first episodes, she has also participated in the design of series such as Umbrella Academy, The Defenders or Daredevil. As director, the series will alternate between several names as in the first two seasons. We therefore find Stephen Surjik, who has already worked on the series, Loni Peristere, Gandja Monteiro and Bola Ogun. They are all experienced videographers in the world of television series, some having worked in the past with Netflix.
What is the cast of The Witcher season 3?
This season will be Henry Cavill’s final appearance as Geralt de Riv. In addition to Superman, the British actor is also stepping down as a witcher. The latter, who also streams Twitch, now wants to produce a series around the Warhammer license. In parallel, Freya Allan embodies Cirilla Fiona Elen Riannon better known as Ciri. Additionally, Joey Batey lends his voice and performs as Dandelion. Finally, this predominantly British team is completed by Anya Chalotra who plays the role of Yennefer de Vengerberg.

During the design of this series, the ideas jostled. However, they were not really in the agreement, because disagreements on the future of the series shook the production. Rumors say that the showrunner had an active desire to break away from the books. A great lover of the original works and the license The Witcher, the one who also embodies Superman in the cinema would not have seen it with a good eye. These hallway noises correlate with the words of former producer, Beau DeMayo, who said on Instagram: “I’ve been on shows, like The Witcher, where some of the creatives didn’t like especially books and games. Sometimes they even made fun of the original material.”
