Looking at the Steam audience, Call of Duty Warzone 2 seems in bad shape. So, what would it take to revive the hype? The former pro player “Nadeshot” gives his opinion on the question.
Should we save the Warzone 2 soldier? After a fanfare start (25 million players in 5 days), the new battle royale Call of Duty seems in bad shape – at least on PC | Steam. According to the figures of SteamDB, on the Valve platform, the number of concurrent players has only dropped since the game was releasedNovember 16, 2022. For example, on the 24th of the same month, just over 385,000 Internet users were connected at the same time, compared to 165,000 on January 5!
Above all, still on Steam, the “rather negative” reviews are still pouring in to this day. It’s simple: out of some eighteen thousand reviews on Call of Duty Warzone 2, only 34% are positive. In a recent article, we explained the why and how. Beyond various PC optimization issues, the Activision teams have “twisted” the battle royale quite a bit. The gameplay is slower than in the previous episode; the most powerful items are guarded by AI soldiers; DMZ sandbox mode isn’t quite there yet. According to the players, there is still work to be done.
Nadeshot’s grandfather
So what would it take for free-to-play to get off to a good start? In a message posted on Twitter, on January 15, Matthew ‘Nadeshot’ Haag gives his opinion. The former professional Call of Duty player believes that it should “add the possibility of using plates (to regenerate armor, editor’s note) during the sprint” and be able to stop the reloading of a weapon – even in the middle of its animation. Nadeshot would also like movement speed to be boosted by 10% and the accuracy of airstrikes drops by 80%. Then, why not rework the loot system | add ranked games with “comprehensive statistics”. It already hurts a lot.
-Add the ability to plate while sprinting
-Add ranked play and comprehensive stats
-Significantly reduce headshot multiplier
-Add reload canceling
-Increase universal movement speed by 10%
-Rework the looting system entirely
-Reduce Precision Airstrikes drops by 80% https://t.co/AF3dj9ttDq— 100T Nadeshot (@Nadeshot) January 15, 2023
An offbeat Season 2?
“Beyond the overhaul of the loot system, these changes (…) should be relatively simple and easy to modify” comments the former pro player, in a second message. Not sure if Activision will follow the list to the letter – but since the launch of Call of Duty Warzone 2, the publisher and its teams have already made some changes that fans have been hoping for, such as the personal drop. We’ll see what happens! According to rumors, Season 2 of the battle royale would be postponed for a few days, not arriving on February 2 but on the 16th. Activision has not yet given its version.
