01/19/2023 at 7:30 p.m. by Matthias Brückle – Anyone who loves games, series and animated films about Batman in the original English will have been hit hard by Kevin Conroy’s tone in November 2022. But anyone who thought “At least we still have Mark Hamill for the Joker” will probably also be disappointed: Hamill no longer wants to set the Joker to music – and also names the sad reason.
In the English original, the games, series and animated films about Batman often shone because of the excellent voice actors. Kevin Conroy was basically THE Batman, entertaining fans with his performances from the ’90s onwards, while Mark Hamill (also starring Luke Skywalker in Star Wars) has given the Joker the perfect combination of charm, madness and viciousness for just as long. The death of Kevin Conroy at the end of 2022 not only affected fans, but of course also family and friends – the latter includes Mark Hamill. His statement now shocks fans.

No Joker without Batman: Mark Hamill no longer wants to set iconic villains to music
Every time Mark Hamill scored The Joker, he could count on one constant: Kevin Conroy as Batman. He doesn’t want to continue like this without this constant companion, he explains in an interview with Empire Magazine. As Hamill says in the current issue (via Screenrant):
“They kept calling and saying, ‘They want you to play the Joker,’ and my only question was, ‘Is Kevin Batman?’ If they said yes, I said, ‘I’m in.’ We were like partners. We were like dumb and chubby. Without Kevin, there seems to be no Batman to me.”‘

While the Joker and Batman have had different voice actors over the years, Hamill’s final goodbye certainly stings when you’re used to his great laugh as the Clown Prince of Crime alone. Thankfully, fans will have plenty of episodes to draw from from the legendary ’90s animated series:

The Joker’s most frequent voice actors include Mark Hamill, among others, Troy Baker (e.g. Joel from The Last of Us), who last set the Dark Avenger’s nemesis to music in the animated two-part film The Long Halloween. Meanwhile, Alan Tudyk lends his voice to the popular HBO series Harley Quinn. Incidentally, we will hear Kevin Conroy in a new production in 2023: The game “Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League” relies on the iconic speaker – one last time.
