“Kommersant” reports on the high growth rates of links with pirated content in Runet, which were included in the anti-piracy memorandum.
By January 2023, domestic copyright holders had already included 76.5 million such links in the thematic register. In July last year, this figure was 62 million, and a similar increase of 15 million was observed from 2018 to March 2021. The memorandum just entered into force in the same 2018.
The holding was especially distinguished by blocking Gazprom Media, which removed more than 7 million links to pirated content, a 67% increase from 2021. About 4.6 million of them were “Yandex” and 2.8 million for Google. Last year, these data were equal to 2.6 and 0.9 million, respectively.
Director of video service development Wink Anton Volodkin noted that the audience has become more likely to turn to pirated resources since March 2022. According to rough estimates, traffic on such resources has doubled compared to 2021.
Most of all, the departure of foreign services and copyright holders from the Russian market affected the growth of piracy. Moreover, domestic projects, including TV shows, also suffer from the actions of intruders.
