Yves Guillemot, Ubisoft CEO, has formally apologized for his statement to employees, according to new reports.
As we have already reported, Ubisoft is currently struggling with major problems. Sales have collapsed, three more games have been canceled and Skull and Bones has been postponed once more. As a result, the stock fell 13.79% to hit a seven-year low.
We also reported that Ubisoft’s CEO – Yves Guillemot – sent an e-mail (via Kotaku) to his employees with a passionate appeal. However, this call backfired and the statement that the future of Ubisoft would now be in the hands of Ubisoft employees to put the current situation on the right track did not go down well. Many employees felt that this meant that it was now the employees’ job to improve the company’s situation. So numerous employees turned to the Ubisoft management, whereupon a new meeting was held.
“So the ball is in our court now – it was in your court for years. Why did you handle the ball so badly that we, the workers, have to fix it for you now?” was a question from the staff.
Yves Guillemot is said to have clarified the misunderstandings in the meeting held afterwards and apologized:
Guillemot opened the conversation with an apology: “I heard your feedback and I’m sorry that it was perceived that way.”
“When I say it’s your turn to deliver our program on time and with the quality expected, I want to say that more than ever I depend on your talent and energy to achieve this goal.”
“This is a collective journey that naturally begins with myself and the leadership team to set the stage for mutual success.”
The French union had previously called for a staff strike. Ubisoft is also said to have been laughed at in various takeover bids.
