Meta posted to introduce a new Account Center, putting Instagram, Facebook and Messenger account settings in one place. The new Account Center will allow you to manage your preferences across all your Meta accounts (Facebook, Messenger, Instagram) from one place.
The revamped Account Center will be in the settings menu on Facebook, Instagram and Messenger, meaning you can adjust your Facebook account settings from Instagram, and vice versa. This also applies to Meta’s stand-alone accounts, which the company began allowing Meta Quest owners to use instead of Facebook accounts since last year.
Some of the settings you can change in the new Account Center include personal information, passwords, security, ad and payment settings, and the permissions you’ve given to each app, making it easier for people who use multiple Meta apps to manage their settings.
Meta won’t put all your accounts in the Account Center by default, so you’ll have to add them yourself. Meta notes that you can also remove accounts you’ve added at any time.
While you can use the new Account Center to adjust your ad settings across Facebook, Instagram, and Messenger, Meta says these settings will need to remain the same across each app. In other words, you can only keep different ad settings if you use the Account Center separately for each app. If you enter another account in the Account Center that has different ad settings, Meta will “adjust these settings to match all your accounts.”
These changes were announced yesterday and will be rolled out gradually to all Facebook, Messenger and Instagram users over the “coming months”. This is part of Meta’s plan to make its apps more connected since the first introduction of Account Center in 2020. While Meta originally used it to consolidate Facebook and Instagram login and payment information, last year it made it easy to switch between Instagram and Facebook accounts. Meta says it plans to centralize and make other adjustments in the future.
In addition to this, Meta also announced an update to some of the ad settings, although the details are not exactly clear.
In addition to bringing ad settings into the Account Center, the company announced improvements to some of the ad settings controls that can help people understand and manage their ad experience within Meta’s technologies.
The company announced an update to User Activity Data, now called Activity Information, to help people easily understand how their activity sent from other websites and apps is used to drive the ads they see. Meta has promised to make it easier for people to understand the options when it comes to viewing ads that the company displays in other apps and on websites. Meta says they recognize that people want more control over the ads they see, which is why they’re exploring new ways to let people see more ads about things they care about, in addition to the existing option to see fewer ads about things they don’t.
