Microsoft has started releasing the KB5021751 update, which stands out for not bringing anything new. Well, almost nothing. Is that in practice it will help to discover how many people are using an Office that is running out. This is because support has come to an end or will come very soon. But was there a need?
Microsoft wants to find out if its Office is running out
Perhaps. First, no files are installed on systems receiving this update. The only issue is that a check is made in order to see if the Microsoft Office installation is out of date or if an update will be needed soon.
As is logical the company says that the objective is to determine how many customers are still using outdated versions of Office. However, the notice does not mention what information the KB5021751 update checks for and what will be sent to Microsoft’s servers. I am thinking, for example, of users who are using illegally activated pirated versions, among other things.
As Microsoft says “this update runs once silently without installing anything on the user’s device.”
If you don’t feel comfortable, you can take advantage of a Microsoft utility that allows you to hide or show updates. It is available at this link.
Run it and in the first window click Next.
Then choose the Hide Updates option.
Then select update KB5021751 and click Next.
If prompted, restart the device.
This update is no longer installed.
What happens when a release reaches end of support?
After a version of Office reaches end of support, Microsoft no longer provides technical support, bug fixes, or security fixes for newly discovered bugs or security vulnerabilities.
Want to use Office without spending money?
Most people are in the habit of installing Office on their computer. However, we can use it online and in reality at no cost. That said, we are going to tell you how to use Microsoft Office in the web version.
How to use Microsoft Office in the web version
The first thing you have to do is go to this website. It’s the official Office page.
Then in the upper right corner click on login. To access Office Free you will need a Microsoft account. If not, you can create an Outlook account for free. When you have it or if it already exists, simply enter your details.
Afterwards, if this is your first time using Office, you will see a window like the one shown below.
Just move forward with the arrows until you reach the part that says start.
Then we have access to an interface that reveals all the applications that belong to the Office productivity suite. That is, Word, Excel, Powerpoint, Outlook, Skype among others.
In fact, everything is very simple to use in Office 365 free. If we want to use Word, we just have to click on the respective symbol on the left side. On the new page, just press the + sign to start creating a new blank document.
The only thing we don’t have access to are the premium models, as a subscription would be required at a cost of 7 Euros per month.
However, if you have the Edge browser, you can make using Office even simpler. All thanks to an extension provided by Microsoft. You can download it here.
Click the get button and then add extension. It is thus an even simpler way to interact with the free Office.
However, with the extension installed, you will see the Office symbol at the top right.
When you click on it, a window appears that immediately shows all available applications. At the same time it guarantees immediate access.
In fact, it’s a very simple way to access Office for free. In these times, really, if we can save a little, it’s always a good sign.
It’s a good alternative if you’re running out of Office.
