In 2023 do we still have to explain to anyone what an NFT is? If you have actually been living under a rock in the last few months and years and have not heard anything about cryptocurrencies such as Bitcoin or Ethereum or NFTs, then you have not really missed anything apart from the insane squandering of billions of dollars and fantastic promises of wealth and revolution . NFTs are so-called non-fungible tokens, i.e. digital or physical things that are marked as unique due to a blockchain.
Simplified using the example of “Bored Apes”: A digital image of a cartoon monkey (or a whole collection of variations of this cartoon monkey) is declared as unique using a chain of numbers and is sent to people with too much money and a lot of boredom for one sold a certain amount in a cryptocurrency. The buyer is then happy to have a unique JPEG stored on a USB stick, which can easily be worth millions of dollars. At least if you measure the “value” of this file by the purchase price. And if that wasn’t absurd enough, the makers of “Bored Apes” have now also released a video game about their bored apes.
NFT: The “Bored Apes” now have their own video game
If you belong to the elite circle of owners of a “Bored Ape” NFT, you can play a very special video game until February 8th, which is primarily about a monkey’s bowel movement. The heartbreaking story of the game, which was designed with a lot of love for rip-offs, tells the story of the “Bored Ape” Jimmy, who swallows some golden key from another dimension while drunk and then gets the little whistle of his life.
Consequently, the key ends up in the sewers and the player has to go in search of the interdimensional artifact. Donkey Dash, as the makers of the “Bored Ape” NFTs called their game, looks like a cheap mobile game in which you go on a simple high score hunt. In contrast to countless other mobile games, the game is anything but free-2-play.
NFT: This is how you can play the “Bored Apes” game
Anyone who is seriously considering playing the mobile game “Donkey Cash” (a Freudian misspelling, it must be called “Donkey Dash” of course) must at least know someone who owns a “Bored Ape” NFT. Should you have access to this illustrious circle of human society, then you can bid for a license to play, a so-called “Sewer Pass”, on the online marketplace Open Sea. The prices you pay in Ethereum fluctuate between $2,000 and $10,000.

If you have taught the ETH petty cash to be eligible to play, you can hunt for high scores until February 8, 2023. After this campaign, each participating crypto luminary will receive rewards in the form of unique (the reader already knows) NFTs. And the main prize is the aforementioned key, which apparently can be used to open a treasure chest. Again, because of the blockchain, expect everything to be made up of unique, distinctive zeros and ones.
