Samsung arrived in the small world of 4K OLED TVs in 2022 with the magnificent Samsung S95B. The Korean giant has even invented its own technology: QD-OLED. One problem: this OLED TV model, considered one of the best in the world (just that), came out at a very high price. The 2023 winter sales change the game and come to break the price of the Samsung S95B.

Samsung S95B: Half price for one of the best OLED TVs thanks to sales
When the JVTECH editorial staff saw this offer on the Samsung S95B, we unanimously said to ourselves that we were looking at one of the best promotions of all these winter 2023 sales. Remember that the law prohibits discounts in stock during the sales: when there is a break, it will be over! If you are looking for an excellent OLED TV, we strongly advise you not to waste a minute: a promotion at this price is not likely to last more than a day.

Cobra is an ultra-reliable specialized merchant, as can be a store like Son-Vidéo.com for example. They are the only ones to offer such a monstrous promotion on the S95B: everywhere else, this TV launched at around €2,500 is sold several hundred euros more expensive.
Seeing this ultra-high-end 55-inch TV at “only” €1,290 is pretty crazy, we’re almost half the launch price. Even during Black Friday, there has never been such a strong promotion on this product to our knowledge.

Explanations on OLED technology
Before describing in detail what QD-OLED technology consists of, it seems important to us to put things in their context. First, let’s talk a bit about OLED technology.
The acronym OLED stands for Organic Light Emitting Diode. Technically, an OLED panel has nothing to do with a classic LCD panel, which is still found in most televisions. In conventional TVs, filters are placed on a large backlight panel that projects white light. With OLED, there is no need for a backlight panel because the “organic diodes” are able to emit their own light.
Hear it right: with OLED, each pixel on the screen manages its light individually. If black should be displayed, the diode is simply not lit. The level of contrast achieved is therefore literally infinite. OLED also allows for more vivid and accurate colors, since they are not influenced by a white light panel. Finally, OLED allows for better viewing angles, lower power consumption and much thinner screens.
As you can imagine, this technology is complex to produce. So only one factory in the world has been able to produce large OLED panels for years: the LG factory. Until last year, LG supplied all of its competitors with OLED panels. And then, in 2022, Samsung entered the race with its own version of OLED: the QD OLED.
What is QD-OLED in the Samsung S95B?
We spare you the very technical details based on blue sub-pixels in triangular formation to get to the point: QD-OLED promises unparalleled color space coverage and above all brightness never achieved on OLED.
It may not seem like much, but it changes everything. During its first years, the OLED had 2 defects:
1. When a vivid and static image remained for too long (a bright red life bar, a continuous news channel logo…), it could “burn” the screen and remain etched on the TV for life. Nowadays, manufacturers have put in place a lot of things so that this problem no longer arises (automatic cleaning of pixels, detection of risk areas, alternation of active pixels, reductions in brightness, etc.). The mission is successful : so-called burn problems are a thing of the past.2. Removing the backlight panel is nice, but without it it’s difficult to achieve a very high level of brightness. To fully enjoy a 4K OLED TV, it was better to be in the dark. Where Samsung was already managing to pass 2000 candelas per square meter on its Mini-LED TVs, the peak brightness of OLED was struggling to reach 1000. Placing an OLED TV in a room flooded with direct light was a big problem…until last year and the arrival, among other things, of QD-OLED.
