01/21/2023 at 3:30 p.m. by Valentin Sattler – Many games use outdated DLSS versions, but an upgrade to the current DLSS 2.5.1 can be worthwhile. Some comparison videos of AAA games show that artefacts are sometimes significantly reduced.
Shortly before the turn of the year, Nvidia once again released a new version of DLSS 2: DLSS 2.5.1, which was used for the first time in Portal RTX. As usual, numerous other DLSS titles are a long time coming with an update. Many games continue to use older versions of the upscaler. As a report from Dsogaming shows, a (manual) upgrade can definitely be worthwhile.
Significantly fewer graphic errors
As an example, three YouTube videos were compiled there that compare DLSS 2.5.1 with older versions in some games. In Red Dead Redemption 2, for example, compared to the version DLSS 2.2.10 used there, the flickering that is particularly visible in the leaves when the camera moves is avoided. DLSS 2.5.1 thus ensures a much calmer picture.

A significant improvement can also be observed in Cyberpunk 2077, where DLSS 2.4.3 is currently used. This shows clear artefacts in places, which are much weaker visible in the newer DLSS version. But there are also slight deteriorations in places: distant birds in Death Stranding seem to flicker a little more, as do fine branches in God of War. On the other hand, the image in both games has fewer artifacts, so there are also improvements.
Finally on the subject: Nvidia DLSS 2.5.1: Disables integrated sharpness, developers should use NIS
The extent to which a manual update of the DLSS version is worthwhile will vary greatly depending on the game and scene. As the comparison videos show, it can definitely be worth a try. This is particularly true because the manual update to DLSS 2.5.1 is not too difficult: All you have to do is download the current DLL and place it in the game’s installation folder instead of the previous DLL.
