The premiere of Invincible in 2021 was met with praise from critics and audiences for the story and characters. The animated series is based on the comic book series of the same name, which was created by The Walking Dead author Robert Kirkman and illustrated by Corey Walker and Ryan Ottley. It was published from 2003 to 2018.
After a successful first season on Prime Video, Amazon has renewed its contract to air the adult animated series for not one, but two seasons. The series is written in part by Robert Kirkman, one of the creators of the comic book series on which the show is based. And today the first teaser trailer of the series was presented.
“Unbreakable” sometimes adapts the comic very closely, and sometimes varies wildly. I think most of the first seven parts are original to the show. There are huge chunks in every episode that aren’t in the comics at all. I think even in episodes #1 and #8 that I wrote, and so it feels like maybe a little closer to the comics than some of the other episodes, there are large parts of those episodes that are completely original to the show. But I think because they’re so consistent, and because some people haven’t read the comics in a while, they think, “Oh yeah. It’s just like the comics.” So I think some people think it’s a little closer to the comics than it really is. And at the same time, after years of working on The Walking Dead and being that guy in the room who says, “No, let’s change that. Let’s kill this character. Let’s do this,” I always insisted that change everything as much as possible because I got bored with the source material, because I was there for so long, and besides, The Walking Dead was something I was still actively involved in. So I said, “My God, can we do something else?”.
