Why is Amazon discontinuing the donation program?

Amazon automatically pays 0.5 percent of the purchase amount to the charity chosen by the customer. However, there are only selected products on the website and not the entire range.
According to Amazon, Smile is discontinued because it did not achieve the intended effect. Over a million organizations worldwide signed up, leaving little money for individual charities.
