The production of prototypes in Germany will begin this half of the year.
The transition of electric vehicles to the use of traction batteries with a solid electrolyte should solve several problems at once that are relevant for current generation cars. The density of electricity storage will increase, which will either reduce the size of the battery, its mass and share in the cost of an electric car, or increase the range. Batteries of a new type will be able to replenish the charge faster at special DC stations. Finally, they must have a higher fire safety.
According to Bloomberg, the German company BMW, which is collaborating with the American startup Solid Power, in its research center in Munich, expects to launch the production of batteries with solid-state electrolyte as early as this half of the year, and they will be ready for use in running prototypes by 2025.

Ford Motor is also an investor in Solid Power, and more than a dozen companies are involved in the creation of solid-state batteries. Most automakers expect to start using them in mass-produced vehicles in the second half of this decade.
