01/23/2023 at 08:31 a.m. by Claus Ludewig – As competition for Philips Hue and other smart lighting, such as from Govee, Ikea is bringing the new lamps from the Pilskott series to the market.
The special thing about smart lamps is that they can be controlled via Bluetooth or WLAN. For example, you can use an Amazon Echo and the Alexa app to create routines that turn on the light at a certain time or with a voice command. Probably the most famous representative of connected lamps is the Philips Hue brand from Signify. Recently, rumors have been circulating that some intelligent light bulbs will be sold at higher prices from February. Now Philips Hue is facing competition from Ikea. The Swedish furniture store has put new, smart lamps from the Pilskott series on the market.
Ikea puts floor lamps and pendant lights on the market
So there is now the Pilskott LED floor lamp and the Pilskott pendant lamp. The floor lamp, which has flexible LED strips curved in a U-shape, is available for around 100 euros. With an output power of 14.5 watts, the floor lamp achieves a brightness of around 700 lumens. The dimmable light shines at a height of 1.12 meters and is controlled via the Ikea Home Smart app for the mobile phone.
The LED light strips on the pendant light, which costs 100 euros, are curved and have a white light output of 16.5 watts. According to Ikea, the expected lifespan is 25,000 hours, which is almost three years if the lamp is used daily. The 970 mm wide pendant light is attached to the ceiling with two wires. If you want, you can add GU10 and E27 lamps to your smart home, which can also be remotely controlled via the Ikea app. However, a mandatory prerequisite is a gateway that is connected to the Internet router via LAN and ensures wireless communication between the Ikea lights. The Tradfri gateway or the Dirigera Hub can be used for this. It is unclear whether the two innovations support the Matter smart home standard. Some smart lights from the competition can shine even more and in RGB colors, among other things. The Govee LED floor lamp Lyra for 150 euros can not only light up in different colors and does not require a gateway, but can also analyze music played with the built-in microphone if desired. This allows the Govee floor lamp to light up to the beat of the music.
