Summer 2022 Creative Assembly and Sega announced a multiplayer first-person shooter Hyena. And on January 20, the first alpha testing started. And the site Insider Gaming managed to speak with several testers on condition of anonymity: they all signed a non-disclosure agreement.
Players say that Hyenas is a traditional looter shooter where our teams go out to fight and loot. Trophies can be sold for in-game currency, with the most valuable items being completely useless in the post-apocalyptic world, like Sonic plush.
The proceeds can be spent on unlocking characters and cosmetics for them. The game also has premium currency and reputation points, but they are not yet used in any way.
There are currently eight characters in the game representing different ethnic groups and sexual orientations. According to reviews, they differ little from each other, and during the game they are mostly annoying. Their dialogues have been compared to those of Angel from Battlefield 2042.
Opinions about the combat system were divided: some liked the battles, others did not like the lack of recoil and the long time between kills. The maps are extensive, but so far quite empty, and zero gravity zones are present at all levels. They change the gameplay, create unique moments and make the battles interesting.
In terms of graphics and overall polish of the game, Hyenas looks fantastic, according to testers. Her style is reminiscent of Borderlandsbut more inclined towards realism.
Hyenas will be released on Xbox Series, Xbox One, PlayStation 5, PlayStation 4 and PC in 2023. The game does not seem to be shareware.
