I wanted to finish the title of this article with a “but does that matter?”. However, as it didn’t fit, I decided to put it in the text and give you the opportunity to decide if it’s really important or not. Last year, when the iPhone 14 Pro Max was released, it took the top spot for fastest downloads in several studies. In fact, it even beat competitors like Samsung’s Galaxy S22 smartphones. It turns out that, in a new study, the iPhone 14 Pro Max has lost the crown when it comes to download speeds for two Android devices. That said, one of them even comes from Samsung.
iPhone 14 Pro Max is no longer the fastest in downloads
That said, Ookla has published its latest mobile performance report and it covers download and upload speeds, consistency, availability and more.
While the iPhone 14 Pro Max took first place in terms of speed in Q3 with an average download speed of 147 Mbps and upload speed of 17 Mbps, things have changed in the new study. So it was a smartphone from Samsung to be entitled to the crown.
Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 4 took the top spot with 147.24 Mbps average download speed. Google’s Pixel 7 Pro took second place with 137.11 Mbps.
The iPhone 14 Pro Max came in third with 133.84 and the 14 Pro clocked in at 130.14 Mbps. Speeds and latency were all very close, but the Pixel 7 Pro led with 15.53 Mbps upload and 50 ms of latency.
Another interesting result was obtained by Samsung smartphones. This is because they took an overall lead for faster median download speeds compared to all iPhones by around 7 Mbps.
The interesting part about the iPhone 14 Pro Max losing its crown for the fastest download speed is that the Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 4 won with the same performance as we got on the 14 Pro Max in Q3.
The average download speed of the iPhone 14 Pro Max ended up dropping from 147 to 133 Mbps, which allowed the Fold 4 and Pixel 7 Pro to win first and second place respectively.
