Periodically, the American company Ookla tests various models of smartphones to assess their average download speed. In practice, the company analyzes parameters such as download and upload speed, as well as the consistency that the models show (or not) in each test they are submitted to.
Recently, Ookla revealed the results of tests carried out in the fourth quarter of 2022. And the news is not the best for Apple, as the iPhone 14 Pro Max lost the title of fastest to two of its main rivals in the North American market. American.
The big winner of this test was Samsung’s Galaxy Z Fold 4 which recorded an average download speed of 147.24 Mbps. Already in second place was Google’s Pixel 7 Pro with an average speed of 137.11 Mbps.
For its part, the iPhone 14 Pro Max fell from first to third place, thanks to having reached an average download speed of 133.84 Mbps. In fourth place was the iPhone 14 Pro with an average download speed of just 130.14 Mbps.
Reasons for the iPhone 14 Pro Max crash in the Ookla test
One of the most interesting conclusions of this test is that the Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 4 wins the title of fastest with the same results it obtained in the third quarter tests. Just like Google’s Pixel 7 Pro. So why did Apple’s most advanced model drop to third place?
Experts come up with two reasons. The first refers to the fact that the iPhone 14 Pro Max has reached the hands of more users who are in areas where carrier coverage is slower. Taking into account that the tests are carried out in several regions, the entry of these slower areas may have influenced the market.
The second reason is a kind of offshoot of the first. According to experts, during the third quarter tests most iPhone 14 Pro Max users were in metropolitan areas, whose network coverage is more effective and faster.
In other words, the iPhone 14 Pro Max has lost the title of fastest in downloads due to poor network coverage in some regions of the United States of America. Taking into account that the fourth quarter covers several festive dates in the country, this was quite possibly a decisive factor.
