The success of the extremely successful series The Last of Us on HBO is having an effect – the sales figures, especially for the first game, are increasing massively.
At least in Great Britain, The Last of Us is conquering the gaming charts again, almost ten years after the actual release. Since the start of the HBO series, which has received positive reviews almost across the board, the games have also been on the up again. The success of the series seems to be drawing new and old fans to the consoles.
As Gamesindustry.biz reports, both the original version and the remaster have returned to the UK charts. The Last of Us recorded a 238 percent increase over the previous week and took it to 20th place, while The Last of Us: Remastered even managed a 322 percent increase, but only enough for 32nd place.

Since the TV series will run until March, this trend is likely to continue and the PC version of the classic, which will be released in March, will probably also benefit from the success of the series. The Last of Us: Part II has not yet been able to benefit noticeably from the hype surrounding the series, but perhaps the new buyers now want to play through the first part and thus accompany the series.
TV series based on video games certainly have what it takes to boost sales of the associated games. Prominent examples include The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt, which got a boost from the Netflix series starring Henry Cavill, as well as Cyberpunk 2077, which experienced a second spring with the Netflix anime series Cyberpunk: Edgerunners.
