Rumors about a new version of Sony’s Playstation 5 have been circulating on the internet for a long time. This is intended to attract customers with a removable drive and until recently some fans were sure that the new model would also come with improved hardware. Unfortunately, recent leaks explained that Sony is unlikely to make any major changes to the console’s inner workings, but for gamers eagerly awaiting a Pro version of the popular console, there is a glimmer of hope nonetheless.
Is the Playstation 5 Pro coming soon?
As the French site Phonandroid reports, Sony is now working on a revised version of the Playstation 5 (buy now €708.00) due to the end of the chip crisis. Phonandroid relies on an anonymous source that probably provided reliable information beforehand. According to the leaker, Sony wants to use a new processor for this Playstation 5 Pro, which is again provided by AMD. There are no exact details yet, but an increase in performance can probably be expected.
Much more interesting is that Sony supposedly also wants to improve the cooling of their console. The Playstation 5 currently uses air cooling paired with a liquid metal layer. However, this cooling method has already caused some user complaints about excessive heat development with the current Playstation 5. Sony would therefore like to use water cooling for the Pro version in order to completely eliminate the heat problems.

The Playstation 5 Pro is said to be officially unveiled before May this year, i.e. before this year’s E3 in June. Sony itself has not yet commented on an improved version of its console and there is currently no sign of a date for a new State of Play. So you shouldn’t put too much trust in the leak at the moment, but some players would certainly be happy about a Playstation 5 Pro. Especially if it should be available in sufficient quantities.
