There have been rumors about a new PS5 model for a long time. Insider Tom Henderson believes it will be released in September. According to his assessment, there will probably not be a PS5 Pro.
Tom Henderson, a well-known insider and leaker, has taken on the rumors about the Pro or Slim versions of the PS5 and his expressed doubts about itwhether there will be such hardware changes in the foreseeable future.
At the same time, he substantiated the rumors that refer to a revised model of the PS5. It is said to come with a modular or detachable disk drive, but other than that, there are no major changes.
New model in September?
On Twitter, Henderson claims that production of the new PS5 model will start in April. The hardware should be in stores as early as September.
“On all the PS5 Pro/Slim rumours, I don’t think it’s a Pro or Slim model” so Henderson. “In my opinion, it’s just the second generation of the normal PS5. Production of the regular PS5 will end at the end of this year and the new model will launch in April and go on sale in September.”
Henderson went on to emphasize that he’d heard more about an all-new PlayStation generation than an upgraded PS5 model. However, he did not want to rule out more powerful PS5 hardware.
“As for the question of whether there will be a Pro version in this generation, I’m not entirely sure. […] All I can say is that I’ve heard more about the PS6 than a PS5 Pro,” said Henderson.
Sony has not yet commented on a new PS5 model, so the coming months could be exciting. The Japanese company often makes surprising revelations without prior notice.
Sony wouldn’t cease production of the „gen 1“ PS5 if they had different consoles in production for different price points/specs.
The new PS5 will reduce costs in production and shipping because they can produce just one console; with a detachable disc drive.

While the PS6 may be a few years away, the new PS5 model, if confirmed, will offer a significant advantage – for both gamers and the producer. Thanks to the detachable drive, production can be standardized and distribution simplified.
Players, on the other hand, have the option of subsequently deciding for or against the drive, which is only possible with the launch model with a complete new purchase. Rumored to be the Digital Edition not compatible with the presumed optionally available drives.
