The Base Builder Fest on Steam is in full swing, providing a platform not only for existing games in the building genre, but also for future releases. One of them is Steamworld Build, a title set in the SteamWorld universe (SteamWorld Dig) that describes itself as a hybrid of SimCity and Dungeon Keeper.

What sounds like every city builder’s wet dream looks promising on closer inspection: our task is to build a thriving mining town while our Steambot residents unearth various riches in an underground mine. The more our city grows, the more residents come – and they always make new demands. In addition, we must defend our miners in the mine against creatures from below and prevent the underground tunnels from collapsing.

Steamworld Build does not currently have a specific release date, the shop page only says “coming soon”. However, we think a release in 2023 is quite likely, also because the developers have already released a free demo that interested players can use to test the title themselves.
