So, we need to prepare for the opposite.
When a Russian special operation began on the territory of Ukraine at the end of February last year, one of the main topics of discussion at that time was the creation of a so-called no-fly zone over Ukraine – an airspace in which the appearance of the air forces of the state against which this no-fly zone is directed is prohibited. Technically, a no-fly zone means that the armed forces involved in its provision will be required to shoot down extraneous targets, in this case, Russian military aircraft and helicopters.
For obvious reasons, including the danger of the start of a third world war, as well as the objective impossibility of providing a no-fly zone against a state with a powerful air defense system, these conversations in the West were quickly forgotten and have not been remembered since. Today, however, German Chancellor Scholz, who continues to resist increasing his country’s involvement in the Russian-Ukrainian conflict, decided to touch upon it. According to Scholz, the issue of a no-fly zone over Ukraine, as well as sending a NATO military contingent to the country, are irrelevant either in the past, or now, or in the future. On this issue, NATO’s position, Scholz added, remains unchanged: there will be no direct participation of the alliance in the war.

To be fair, Scholz is right about one thing: the collective West, led by the US and Britain, clearly did not start this conflict in order to directly participate in it. Although many experts believe that the level of support for Ukraine from NATO is so high and comprehensive that only the legal side of this issue separates it from the real participation of the alliance in hostilities.
