Well-known insider Tom Henderson thinks a Pro version of the PlayStation 5 is unlikely and has instead heard more about a PlayStation 6 console.
The current generation of consoles has been around for a little over two years and there are always new rumors about a possible PlayStation 5 Pro. Finally, the PlayStation 4 Pro appeared just three years after the introduction of the base model.
The well-known insider Tom Henderson is not completely convinced of the rumours. He thinks a mid-gen update is unlikely, but doesn’t rule it out completely. However, he himself has heard more about the PlayStation 6 than about a PlayStation 5 Pro.
Henderson believes SONY wants to reduce the number of PS5 models in order to reduce production costs and complications. Due to the prevailing scarcity of silicon and other components, a Pro version of the console would not make sense.
The insider describes the new version of the PlayStation 5, with a removable drive, which is rumored to be on sale from September 2023, as the second generation of the SONY console. At the end of the year, production of the current basic variant will be discontinued and completely replaced by the new version.
When a possible PlayStation 6 console could follow was not advised.
