Having enjoyed teasing Sony in the past for the PS5 Midnight Black cover, the Dbrand guys are now looking towards the Kyoto house to launch a new adhesive skin on the market that transforms Steam Deck in the older, and ‘legal’ brother of Nintendo Switch.
In announcing the availability of this new product, the curators of the official Dbrand website joke that “for years, countless blogs have made millions of people believe that a Switch Pro was really around the corner. Well, after having seen a Switch Lite first and then a Switch OLED arrive on the market, we decided to tackle the problem ourselves! After stockpiling a significant amount of ammunition, our lawyers have observed that it would have been wiser to abandon this conspiratorial and mercenary vision in favor of engage in shameless plagiarism. Unfortunately for them, we know how to multitask.”
The nice provocation launched by Dbrand is also taken up by a company spokesman who, to the microphones of The Verge, sarcastically explained that “it’s all legal, or at least that’s what they told us assured our lawyers after paying them to say ‘it’s all legal’“.
The new ‘Nintendian’ skin by Dbrand, in fact, gives Steam Deck the appearance of a Switch ‘on steroids’, complete with a pixelated logo on the crime and fictitious Joy-Con controllers in the classic double Blue / Neon Red color. The promotional page opened for the occasion by the Canadian company specifies that this skin is “the closest thing you can get to Switch Pro”. In case you are interested, the cover SwitchDeck for Steam Deck is sold on the Dbrand portal (excluding shipping costs) for $49.95 in the ‘sticker skin’ version or $59.95 in the ‘hard case’ version.
