Do you know those games that more or less discreetly convey the message: “no, but don’t worry”? Here are 5 examples that you can try, at no additional cost, through a PlayStation Plus Extra or Premium subscription.
What Remains of Edith Finch | PS4, PS5
Published by Annapurna Interactive and developed by Giant Sparrow, this narrative adventure from the creators of The Unfinished Swan should not lull your vigilance on an aspect that seems too sentimental. Pure fantasy genre, anything can happen at any time in a “normal” reality, that of the singular stories of the Finch family, in Washington State. You are Edith, main protagonist and sole survivor of the dynasty. By exploring the abandoned family home, you will gradually discover certain secrets about your own life, or that of one of your loved ones. Without revealing too much, this title is ideal to start a “not too hardcore” discovery.
Observer: System Redux | PS4, PS5
In a cyberpunk universe as heavy as it is dark, against a backdrop of futuristic investigations and murders, here you are in the year 2084. Developed by the Bloober Team, Oberver offers a dystopian narrative without surprises but effective. The world, hit by the nanophage, a digital epidemic, finds itself doubly devastated after an all-out war between East and West, which corporations have taken advantage of to replace governments. You are Daniel Lazarski, an “Observer” or “neuro-investigator”. Thanks to the Dream Eater, you explore the spirit of the dead to relive their last moments and discover the clues leading to the origin of their death. On PS5, enjoy in addition to DualSense functions, 4K resolution, ray tracing and HDR. Across all versions, this remake of the eponymous 2017 game features three new cases to solve, new gameplay mechanics, new secrets, revamped stealth, and other improvements made based on community feedback. Among the details that do not change, however, the mental health of your character is always in your hands.
Dead by Daylight | PS4, PS5
A little more frightening, and in online multiplayer mode, “1 against 4”, Dead by Daylight pits a terrible villain – of your choice – from the best films of the genre against 4 human survivors who will try not to die murdered by him . Developed by Behavior Interactive, “D by D” not only delights streaming platforms but also lovers of asymmetric action. Your survival depends on your skills and your intelligence when it comes to activating switches and other diabolical traps, and why not turning them to your advantage. Play as Jason, Freddy Krueger or even Ghost Face, and above all warn your prey that they will be dead before daybreak.
Friday the 13th | PS4
Adapted from the film and video game franchise of the same name, “Friday the 13th” is another example of asymmetrical gameplay, just as unreassuring, with an equally typical scenario: 7 summer camp counselors are annoyed by a certain Jason, sporting a lovely ice hockey goalie mask. Crystal Lake camp is his home, so trespassers must be executed. Normal. Published by Gun Interactive, to whom we owe Layers of Fear 2, this vision of the famous film emphasizes the implementation of strategies and the essential cooperation of other players in order to create dependence and a relationship of trust ( or betrayal) between players. Because yes, one detail remains: Jason is a little bit powerful. Three times nothing. Don’t worry.
Maneater | PS4, PS5
What better way to end than a good swim in temperate water? Especially in this season, and especially… when you’re a shark. Whoops, you’re a shark, unleashed in a single-player, open-world action RPG (SharkPG, you’ve got it). From the start of the game, still a baby shark, you quickly understand that the object of the game is to eat people. A scenario which has the merit of being simple but which also confronts you with the difficulties of survival which concern even the toughest of predators. Indeed, between two humans, some wild animals will harm you if you are not prepared enough. Fortunately, by collecting resources, among other things, you will be able to improve your selachimorph fish and shape it to your style of play. The fisherman who mutilated you has better watch out. On PS5, you naturally find native 4K HDR at 60 fps, haptic feedback from the DualSense wireless controller and of course ray-tracing. Finally, a campaign narrated by Chris Parnell (official voice of Cyril Figgis in Archer and Jerry Smith in Rick and Morty), in the context of a reality TV show, is not missing.
