01/27/2023 at 10:00 p.m. by Susanne Braun – After the French electro duo Daft Punk broke up in 2021 and celebrated a brief reunion for one day, Guy-Manuel de Homem-Christo and Thomas Bangalter go their separate ways. The latter has now announced the orchestral solo album Mythologies, which will be released on April 7th, 2023. Will it sound a little like Daft Punk?
Maybe the following news will fill you with a little joy if you still mourn the loss of the French electro duo Daft Punk after their dissolution almost two years ago and, like me, consider the soundtrack to Tron: Legacy to be great art. Thomas Bangalter has announced an orchestral solo album (via Variety). The album Mythologies is scheduled for release on April 7, 2023.
On a sidenote: Bangalter also released a picture of himself with the announcement, albeit an illustration. Anyone who knows Daft Punk knows that the duo not only inspires fans with their sounds and pieces of music (e.g. “Get Lucky”, “One More Time”, “Harder, Better, Faster, Stronger” or “Around the World”) but has also appeared largely anonymously. Bangalter and colleague Guy-Manuel de Homem-Christo mostly took to the stage in their robotic suits and motorcycle helmets, leaving many people unaware of what the two musicians looked like – although a quick google search will easily tell you if you do wanted to look like Bangalter and de Homem-Christo.

Mythologies mit Tron-Legacy-Vibes?
Daft Punk is of course also known for the Tron: Legacy soundtrack, which was recorded by an 85-piece orchestra, among other things. Does that mean fans with Mythologies expect something similar from Bangalter? The announcement states that the Daft Punk co-founder reinvents his compositional approach with Mythologies as a lyrical work, that the 90-minute score shows little regard for conventional stylistic boundaries and reveals a love of baroque music and hints of American minimalism (also via Variety). At least I’m curious. And you?
