Dead Space Remake is available now worldwide for next-gen consoles and PC. Check out the official launch trailer here!
Electronic Arts and Motive Studio today announce the release of Dead Space. The remake of the sci-fi survival horror classic is available now for PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S and PC.
Dead Space puts players in the role of Isaac Clarke, an ordinary engineer on a routine mission to repair a gigantic mining starship, the USG Ishimura.
But a real nightmare awaits him on board the Ishimura: the ship’s crew has been killed and infected. And Isaac’s girlfriend Nicole must still be on board. Isaac is alone and trapped. All he has left is his technical tools and engineering skills, which he uses to fight for survival – not only against terrifying monsters called “Necromorphs”, but also against his own sanity.
“Upon release in 2008, Dead Space became an instant classic in the survival horror genre thanks to its unique sci-fi setting and atmospheric storyline,” said Philippe Ducharme, Senior Producer of Dead Space. “Almost 15 years later, we want to remain true to the legacy of the original with the new edition and at the same time optimize it with the new technical possibilities. When you put on Isaac’s suit for the first time, we wish the game would leave the same lasting impression that we had in 2008. If you already know the original, we hope we’ve created a game that lives up to your fondest memories and that you’re looking forward to getting your hands on the plasma cutter again.”
Dead Space was built from the ground up in the Frostbite engine. Staying true to the gripping vision of the original, the remaster features enhanced sound and crisp graphics that have been carefully remastered to reach new levels of immersion and quality. The remake also offers some key gameplay improvements, such as:
An engineer’s (night) dream: Without weapons or support, Isaac is forced to defend himself against the Necromorphs using high-tech mining tools to strategically dismember the nightmarish creatures, solve puzzles in his thrilling journey, and use the Ishimura’s malfunctioning systems to his advantage. In addition, Isaac has received an updated suit and an expanded and more detailed arsenal of tools with improved effects and functions as part of the reboot. The originally mute protagonist is now also voiced by Gunner Wright, the original voice of Isaac in Dead Space 2 (2011) and Dead Space 3 (2013), allowing the voice actor to once again lend his voice and face to the character. Thanks to new narrative options, players can now hear the popular engineer more often.
A fully connected Ishimura: As players navigate the frighteningly narrow corridors and dark corridors of the USG Ishimura, the gameplay experience is uninterrupted by a single loading screen or camera cut from the opening screen to the end credits. The giant mining spaceship has been updated with new rooms, paths and obstacles for the remake, allowing for seamless exploration with new map controls and an improved tracking system.
Der Intensity Director: Dead Space offers a beautifully crafted yet immersive world that invites players to lose themselves in the game world and feel every step Isaac takes on his journey. As he explores familiar and new areas, the new Intensity Director dynamically adjusts what appears in Isaac’s path – from Necromorph spawns and the way they attack to environmental effects such as lights, smoke, particles and sound. No one will have the same experience in a room, players who choose to retrace their steps and revisit previous locations will also encounter new experiences. Isaac’s heartbeat, breathing, and exertion adjust to his stress levels, giving players direct feedback on his mental, emotional, and physical state.
The dismantling system: The Necromorphs are unique monsters that utilize the new disassemble system, which simulates multiple layers of flesh, sinew, and bone that can crack, tear, or shatter. And while strategy remains a key factor, using the variety of unique weapons and abilities will also give players more opportunities to get creative when battling these terrifying foes.
